New Mom Gift Ideas That Support Their Mental Health

Mental Health and Parenting

I experience quite often the “happy” moms. The moms who are constantly happy around others and on social media when they are really struggling to cope with the new experience and responsibility of being a mother. As I prepared for this post it was interesting to see that I encountered many mothers say “i was not believed” “my feelings were not real to others” or “i was told it is apart of being a new mom”. It is not. There is a healthy way to care for your young and care for yourself! As I have said often you cannot pour from an empty cup also known as you have to care for yourself before you can care for others.

During my research I found that 1 in 8 women will experience pre- or post partum depression and anxiety! Read one moms experience with Postpartum depression here. There are so many things that can be done to decrease this high statistic! One of which is what the new mom can do for herself; which easier said than done. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  1. Make Time For Yourself
  2. Connect With Other Moms
  3. Sleep
  4. Exercise
  5. Go To Counseling
  6. Go On A Date With Your Spouse
  7. Ask For Help!

With new moms in mind, I thought it would be beneficial to provide reasonably priced gifts for new moms that other moms have used to: add to the baby registry, give others baby shower gift ideas or purchase them for yourself! The goal is to help new moms care for their babies with a minimum level of stress, depression, anxiety or remorse.

New Mom Gift Ideas: Books

For my moms that love to read and follow easy guides, check these out below! Educate yourself on what is happening within your mind and how others have learned to cope with their struggles. These options come highly recommended by fellow mom bloggers and new moms in my life. When you purchase let me know how it worked for you!

New Gift Mom Ideas: Mindfulness

Mindfulness is focusing on the present moment and accepting your feelings, thoughts and body response. As a new mom it is occasionally difficult to express what you need emotionally to others. Through mindfulness one can hone in on what their body or mind needs and fulfill that need. The best way to practice mindfulness is through journaling, activities, meditation/yoga and much more!

New Mom Gift Ideas: Blankets

Blankets can help calm and soothe mom as she rest! My personal favorite are the weighted blankets that decrease anxiety and helps you sleep better throughout the night.

New Mom Gift Ideas: Reminders

What better way to ensure new moms remember that they are new and doing a great job than little gift reminders! Society, family and friends pre-judge moms on the way they parent their child constantly, even from birth! Remind new moms that they are making progress and are doing exactly as they should.

New Mom Gift Ideas: Fashion

Some new moms do not feel as desirable as they did before having their bundle of joy. New mothers are likely to not fit their previous clothing when pregnant and a little afterward, so gifting fashion is a definite NEED. Give the new mom comfy yet fashionable clothing they can wear anywhere!

I hope that you will find these highly recommended products by fellow moms helpful! As noted many times above it is important for moms to care for themselves just as it is important to care for the little ones.

  1. Great ideas! I know it was initially difficult for me to learn how to cope with being a new mom. I wish I had some of those books you mention after I had my baby. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Although I’m not a Mum myself I’ve taken these tips on board for any friends in the future that have babies. I have previously made a baby and Mum hamper and I made sure to put bits in like face masks and some treats for the new Mum and a few bits for the Dad too.

  3. I absolutely love this post! Especially the books, I’ll be checking a few of those out myself to look into treating myself a little. They’d make really great gifts, though for some reason I feel like people don’t tend to buy books as a gift… That’s a shame, as I’m a bookworm, big time!

  5. Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a
lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message
home a little bit, but instead of that, this is magnificent blog.
A fantastic read. I’ll definitely be back.
